Heather Bergen

Heather Bergen (she/her) is a PhD Candidate in Social Work at York University examining how mandated reporters respond to concerns around children’s safety and well-being. She worked with young mothers for many years which taught her about the systemic, interlocking violences faced by parents and motivates her to advocate for a world that can support the flourishing of all children and families. This project’s unique focus on precarious immigration status and the family policing system combines two of her areas of interest and she is excited to be involved with such important research and advocacy work.
